Qualified as: Winner of European play off matches vs. Croatia (51-44 agg.)
Coach: Thomas Sivertsson
As opposed to the Swedish male national team, which by winning a total of 11 World Cup medals make Sweden the most successful nation in men’s handball history, the Swedish women are still looking forward to their first trip to the podium in a World Championship context. No impossible task given the fact that the Swedes with their Ech silver in 2010 and Ech bronze in 2014 obviously are on the right track and this time around must be considered as a serious candidate as far as medals are concerned.
Especially in defense the Swedes are very impressive and their attack is set up brilliantly by Isabelle Gulldén. Strong players like Johanna Ahlm , Sabina Jacobsen and Linnea Torstensson are dangerous from long distance and Jamina Roberts can put on pressure and go for fast break throughs .
In the play off ahead of these championships Sweden had a difficult task with Croatia as the opposition, but the Swedes won the away match by one goal and then convincingly beat the Croatians by 27-21 at home.
