With a total of 23 sets of medals at the World Championships, European Championships and Olympic Games – of which ten has been gold medals - Norway is in a class of its own when it comes to international women's handball. Norway is the reigning Olympic champions and they are reigning European champions so it was a big surprise when the Norwegians at the WCh 2013 had to settle for fifth place after being knocked out in the quarterfinals by the hosts from Serbia.
There is no doubt that the Norwegians are pushing hard to get their revenge in this tournament. The Norwegians have so far "only" won twice at the World Championships. A contrast to the impressive six gold medals, they have achieved at the up until now 11 European Championship finals.
Norway's defense is perhaps the best in the world and no other team is better in counter-attacks. In the established attack, the team is strong from all positions with Stine Oftedal as the gifted playmaker and Nora Mork as the outstanding individualist in an excellent collective.
