Apart from the championships in 1990 and 2011, Hungary has participated in all World Championship finals in women’s handball. But it was only at the finals in West Germany in 1965 when the Hungarians beat Yugoslavia by 5-3 in the final the handball superpower has won a Wch gold medal.
Hungary has four times been a loser of a World Cup final (the latest in 2003) as well as they have four times won the bronze medals.
After Anita Görbicz for more than a decade has been the dominant figure the Hungarian national women’s team now appears much more homogeneous and versatile with a wide range of exciting young players to complement the experienced playmaker Zita Szucsánszki and super goalscorer Anita Bulath. Unfortunately, Hungarians have to play without their new star player as 19-year-old Gabriella Toth's is suffering a long-term injury.
