Apart from the finals in 2001 and 1975, Germany has participated at all World Championship tournaments in women's handball - and the fact concerning 1975 is only half the truth, because DDR actually won the gold medals in that competition.
In 1993 Germany won the world championship gold with the first joint team since the country’s reunification and the big handball-nation won the latest of its total of three Wch bronze medals in 2007.
In the first place Germany did not qualify to this tournament, after having lost both play off matches versus Russia. But the Germans were awarded one of the IHF's two Wild Cards.
Danish Jakob Vestergaard has implemented a minor introduction of young and exciting players and in Germany expectations are set high for the young playmaker Kim Naidzinavicius as partner to experienced Anna Loerper. Also on the right-back Germany has two very fine players - Anne Hubinger and Susann Müller.
