It was close that both the Congo and the Congo had qualified for the World Championship but the smaller of the two African countries - The Republic of Congo - had to settle for second place at the IHF's so-called Continental Challenge where four nations competed for the last ticket to this tournament.
Thus, The Democratic Republic of Congo alone represents that part of Africa at these finals.
Just like they did it in 2013 which resulted in a 20th place. The Republic of Congo has represented Africa at the Wch five times - most recently in 2009.
DR Congo won second place in last year's African championship after they defeated neighboring Congo by 27-22 in the quarterfinals. And with a 28-23 win against Algeria in the semifinals they made their way to the finals which Tunisia however won 23-20.
The clearly dominating figure in the team is back player Christianne Mwasesa Mwange, but also Jumelle Okoko is worth keeping an eye on.
