It is an exaggeration to say that Cuba has made a deep impression the two times the country has participated in the Women’s World Championship. In 1999 the Cubans lost all five matches with clear digits and only ended up as number 21 because Congo, Australia and Argentina had a worse goal difference.
History repeated itself in 2011, but by then the President's Cup had been introduced and in the battle between the lowest ranked nations Cuba managed to defeat Argentina and finish as number 22. Statistics are therefore that Cuba until now has achieved only one win in their 12 Wch matches.
At the Pan -American Championships on home ground in Havana in May 2015 things looked completely different. Cuba won its first six games and wasn’t beaten until the final where they faced the mighty world champions Brazil who managed a 26-22 win. The team plays very aggressively in defense, and in attack it is the experienced Glennys Reyes and Lisandra Lussón and the young promising Eyatne Rizo , who are the dominant players.
