Throw-off meeting in Basel
Under the leadership of IHF President Dr Hassan Moustafa and DHF President Per Bertelsen a preparatory meeting for the 2015 Women’s World Championship in Denmark took place at the IHF Head Office in Basel on Monday 2 March. Just 4 weeks after the successful end of the Men’s World Championship the IHF is now focusing on the next major event to come. The Women’s World Handball Championship will be held, as already known, in the cities of Frederikshavn, Kolding, Næstved and Herning from 5 to 20 December 2015.
In the presence of COC Chairman Leon Kalin and TV rights holder beIN Sports several major points for the preparation of the women’s title contests were discussed. The match schedule, organizational matters such as accreditation, accommodation and transportation as well as ticket sale strategies and the fan zone concept were dealt with in detail. Media and TV experts from both sides agreed on basics for the upcoming months. Focus was also placed on the official draw event which will be held in Denmark on 24 June 2015.
As published before, the qualifications have already been played in Africa; and Tunisia, the Democratic Repulic of the Congo and Angola have secured their spot in IHF’s major event. Norway as European Champions and Denmark as hosts are also qualified as well as Brazil who will try to defend their World Championship title in Denmark. The World Champions from Denmark will also earn a spot in the handball tournament of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
