Nine European teams ready for Wch 2015
While seven of the nine play-offs were more or less decided already after the first round last weekend attention was focused on the two matches in Moscow and Stockholm where Russia played Germany and Sweden hosted Croatia.
The Russians went onto the pitch with a two goal lead and it seemed they would have no trouble defending that as the two teams went to the interval with a Russian 13 to 10 lead.
But Germany came back and at 16-16 after 40 minutes the game could go anywhere. But Russia regained control and in the end won by 27-26.
In Sweden the home side had a one goal advantage before the match and started out fiercefully establishing a lead of 9-1.
Croatia had good spell at the end of 1st half and at half time the Swedish lead was reduced to 14-9 – but yet again the home side came out of the dressing room with determination and restored a huge lead which eventually resulted in a win of 27-21.
Only three places for the Women’s World Championship remain to be decided: The winner of next week’s qualification tournament with Australia, The People’s Reublic of Congo, Mexico and Kazakhstan participating plus the two wild cards handed out by the IHF.
