Sensational tv ratings at the Wch
The first ten days of the World Championship has been a massive succes. Not only spectatorwise in the four arenas but also as far as tv-viewing from the matches is concerned.
And especially in Scandinavia.
”Second half of the eighth final between Denmark and Sweden had 1.740.000 viewers in Denmark alone,” says John Jäger, Editor in Chief from Danish TV 2.
1.740.000 is almost one third of the whole population in the host country and the rest of the matches split between TV 2 and Denmark’s Radio, DR, have had more than one million viewers.
Further north the Norwegians are also deeply satisfied.
When the Norwegian team played versus Germany numbers got as high as 1.451.000 which in comparison to the Danish numbers is even more impressive given the fact that Norway as far as population goes is half a million smaller than Denmark.
”What has impressed me the most”, says John Jäger, ”is that we have had more than 100.000 Danish viewers watching matches between other countries – e.g. the group match between Russia and Spain.”
