Congo at home in Kolding
"It was touching," says Knud Nørregaard, head of school, about the visit from the national team of Congo to his primary school in Kolding. The school has ‘adopted’ the team from Congo, and has been preparing to give "their" team the finest home ground in Kolding.
"It means something to meet with other people - that's the opportunity that we have gone for here. The most important thing was that it could be done. We had met at the arena and cheered for the team at the matches. Last night it fell into place with the visit to the school. It was a great hour," says Knud Nørregård and describes how the Congolese team had accepted the invitation and returned the hospitality with singing their national anthem and dancing for the children.
Line Kærholm who is team guide for Congo, talks about how the visit had fallen into place and how it practically was possible for handball players to pull a few hours out of their tight program: "The team dropped a practise and the school was ready with the morning song, when we arrived. There was a speech in French and we got tea and coffee."
The primary school in Kolding is one of 11 schools that have prepared for the IHF Women’s World Handball Championships by adopting a team and a country. The other teams are Brazil, France, Germany, Argentina and South Korea and they all have their special school support. The students have not only worked in class but also show up to cheer for their team at the venue. This has created a very special atmosphere in at the matches with a genuine feel of home ground for both teams playing.Follow on Facebook - Heart of Handball
